VW distributor aims for sales rise

Amidst rumours that Volkswagen Group is interested in fully entering Thailand and taking over distribution, its local partner and distributor Thai Yarnyon, which is owned by the Leenutaphong family, is planning to achieve significant sales growth in 2013

The company is also planning to launch three new models in Thailand this year. Thanayuth Techasen, managing director of VW distributor Thai Yarnyon, said the company sold 812 VW vehicles in 2012, up 12 per cent from a year ago.
“This year we plan to sell 1,000 vehicles and grow by another 20 per cent,” he added.
Thanayuth said a larger number of European vehicles are being imported into Thailand from Asian production plants due to free-trade agreements.
“European brands are offering a wider range of products that better suit the requirements of customers while the retail price is decreasing. This gives European vehicles higher competitiveness in the market,” he pointed out.
During the second half of this year, VW will introduce the Amarok pickup truck – which is expected to be highly popular in the premium market – as well as the new Beetle. The third model will be a saloon, which will be announced in the near future, he said.
At the recent Bangkok International Motor Show, VW received 170 orders.
Thanayuth said this year the company will concentrate on strengthening relationships with customers by improving its CRM quality, as well as staging continuous marketing activities.
