Vehicle sales slide in July, but at slower pace

The automotive market has not yet stopped bleeding, with July vehicle sales still recording a drop from the same period last year.

According to the data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand, a total of 69,527 vehicles were sold in the month, showing a 29.2 per cent decline on year.
However, the bleeding became less severe. Cumulative sales in the first seven months plunged by 39.2 per cent from the same period last year.
In July, passenger car sales dropped by 37.5 per cent to 29,677 units, while one-tonne pickup truck sales were down 20.7 per cent to 32,889 units.
Toyota said that sales slumped largely in the first months of this year, due to the psychological impacts from political instability. It expected a continued improvement in August, given the recovery in political situation and the economic outlook. Meanwhile, Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale, hosted in mid-August, was also a big boost to the industry.
