Mobile Game Asia conference in Bangkok next week

The Global Mobile Game Confederation (GMGC) will hold "Mobile Game Asia 2015", the first conference of its kind in Bangkok, on January 23.

Now in its second year, Mobile Game Asia is the biggest and fastest-growing business-to-business mobile game conference held in Southeast Asia. As the first of two Mobile Game Asia conferences this year, this full-day event will feature keynote speakers and panellists from the region, including notable companies such as Facebook, Google, iDreamSky, Xurpas, TouchTen Games and PayPal.
Maxim de Wit, GMGC’s vice president for international affairs, said Southeast Asia held tremendous potential, not just due to the large number of mobile gamers, but also in the development of a healthy ecosystem for game developers. As the larger players in the global mobile-gaming industry set their sights on Asia, it is crucial for Southeast Asia’s developers to have a platform to share ideas and drive innovation as the region continues to develop.
Southeast Asia is one of the fastest-growing markets for mobile games, with an estimated market size of US$661 million (Bt21.7 billion) in 2014, which is projected to double to $1.2 billion within the next two years. While many markets in the Asia-Pacific region are facing high user-acquisition costs and increasing saturation, Southeast Asia represents a market poised for takeoff.
Topics covered at Mobile Game Asia 2015 Bangkok will include publishing strategy, mobile-game monetisation and investment, and region-specific panel discussions such as payment options and mobile-game localisation in Southeast Asia.
In addition to the main panel discussions, Mobile Game Asia will feature an indie game developer competition, the “Indie Pitch Arena”. Held in Southeast Asia for the first time, the Indie Pitch Arena will feature 15 independent developers who will pitch their best game ideas in front of an audience and a panel of judges for a shot at winning a $2,000 grand prize.
GMGC currently hosts the largest mobile-game conferences in China and is actively expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia. The pilot Mobile Game Asia event held in Singapore last year was well received, with more than 400 attendees, and featured discussions on a number of key issues affecting the mobile-gaming ecosystem in the region from a number of developers and publishers from all over Southeast Asia.
GMGC is the international platform for companies in the mobile-game ecosystem to form lasting partnerships and access new markets. It organises the annual Global Mobile Game Congress in Beijing and the Global Mobile Game Developer Conference in Chengdu, China, as well as Mobile Game Asia in Southeast Asia and other annual seminars and networking events globally.
