Visitors to the Taj Mahal will soon be able to post their selfies on the social networks immediately after snapping them thanks to the introduction of a Wi-Fi connection that comes into force next Tuesday. The first 30 minutes is free and connectivity beyond this period will be charged at Rs30 per hour. Built on the banks of the Yamuna by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632, the white marble mausoleum is one of most photographed landmarks in India.

Asean in all its glory
New travel channel GoAsean is now airing on the Astro network and highlights the top shopping, sports, music, festivals and food attractions in each of Asean’s 10 member countries. The new 24-hour travel channel is the brainchild of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Malaysia’s Prime Minister and is designed to promote the Asean community through travel tales and shows.
“Go Asean provides the perfect opportunity to broadcast the benefits of our region to a global audience,” the Prime Minister says.

Up in the air
Vietnam Airlines will become the first Asian airline – and the second operator in the world – to fly the A350 XWB. Vietnam Airlines will acquire 14 A350 XWBs – 10 of them on order from Airbus and four under lease agreements. The carrier will operate its A350 XWB fleet on premium long haul routes, beginning with services between Hanoi and Paris. The A350 XWB is Airbus’ all-new mid-size, long-range aircraft and the newest member of Airbus’ leading widebody family.

 Naked at the top
Two Canadians are being blamed for causing the 6.0 magnitude quake in Malaysia last week, after they exposed themselves to the sacred Mount Kinabalu. Malaysian officials said a group of 10 European and North American tourists who photographed themselves naked on the mountain caused the quake by provoking the anger of the mountain’s spirits. Mount Kinabalu is considered a sacred site by the local indigenous people who believe spirits of the dead live in the mountain. At least 16 people died when an earthquake hit Mount Kinabalu in eastern Sabah state on Borneo Island. In 2010, an Iranian scholar blamed women who dress immodestly for causing earthquakes.
