Ex-MP candidate quits Democrat Party as inquiry ‘proves affair with monk’

SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2024

A former female MP candidate of the Democrat Party will be expelled for having had an affair with a monk, the party said on Saturday, announcing the results of its investigation.

The female politician, who was not named, reportedly resigned from the party, effective April 13.

Democrat Party spokesman Rames Rattanachaweng said the investigating committee held a meeting on Friday to sum up its findings after completing a “thorough fact-checking process. This included examining the party member under investigation, other related individuals, all relevant witnesses, and information presented in news reports”, he said.

The committee believes that there is truth to the events that occurred. Furthermore, the committee's opinion is that the mentioned party member has violated the regulations of the Democrat Party, Rames said.

The committee also suggested that in cases where a party member violates the party's code of ethics, the appropriate punishment would be to "expel the member from the party".

All of these are preliminary investigation results to be presented for consideration for the next steps according to the regulations, Rames said.

But the party member has already submitted her resignation letter, which the party has acknowledged and processed into the system today (April 13) around 9am, he said.
