Bodies of 11 Thais to arrive home on Wednesday

Bodies of 11 Thai nationals who have been killed in the Hamas-Israel war were returned to Thailand on board flight LY 038 of El Al Airline which left Tel Aviv at 8pm Tuesday.

The plane was scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Wednesday at 12.40am, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv announced on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday at around 3pm, the embassy held a morning ceremony for the deceased at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, led by Pannabha Chandraramya, Thailand’s ambassador to Israel.

The event was joined by Thai and Israeli officials, including Michal Weiler-Tal, director of Southeast Asia Department, Shoshi Reshef Mor, director of the Foreign Trade Division and Mary Zindani, manager of State Relations.

Weiler-Tal expressed condolences to Thai citizens in the name of the Israeli government, while insisting that the country will support the embassy’s repatriation mission in every way possible.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday that 32 Thais have been killed and 19 injured in the fighting, while 22 others have been captured by Hamas.

So far, bodies of 15 Thais have been brought back home for their relatives to pick up and organise funeral rites.

As of Monday, a total of 7,415 Thai workers have been brought back from Israel, though some have chosen to continue living in the Jewish state, where most Thai labourers work in the agricultural sector.
