SCG recognised for eco-friendly production of cement and roofs
Siam Cement Plc (SCG) has received ‘Green Label’ and ‘Carbon Reduction Label’ eco-friendly certifications from Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) in the cement and roof sections, said Dayin Kiatkwankul, marketing director of Cpac Roof Tile Co under SCG’s Cement-Building Materials Business.
“We are the first hydraulic cement producer to have received ‘Green Label’ and the first and only roof manufacturer to be given both labels in the same year” he said, adding that “Our roofs help reduce over two per cent of greenhouse gas”.
The roof producer received both labels for its eco-friendly manufacturing process. The product's strength lies in its heat-reduction efficiency , rendering lower air conditioning and electricity cost. Besides, the water passing through the roofs is consumable, safe from heavy metals and contaminants.
SCG roofs received the ‘Green Label’certification in three series: the concrete roofs ‘Cpac’ and ‘Prestige X-shield’ and the double-waved fibre cement roofs, while the qualities of SCG ceramic roofs ‘Excella’ and ‘Celica Curve’ and all series of SCG fiber cement roofs are now guaranteed by the ‘Carbon Reduction Label’.
Meanwhile, Krit Chinprasartsak, marketing and product line management director of cement and construction solution business, said the company’s hydraulic cement received the‘Green Label’ for less clinker portion in the manufacturing process, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 800 kilograms Carbon dioxide (KgCO2) per product tonne.
The ‘Tiger Band’ also received ‘Carbon Reduction Label’ for its use of solar energy in production, recovering of wasted heat from the production process to generate electricity, and machine improvement to help reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emission.
