TEO Honours Thai Students After Three Bronze Medals at the International Economics Olympiad

The Thailand Economics Olympiad (TEO) has honoured Thailand's most able young economists at its 2026 awards ceremony, held at Srinakharinwirot University's Prasarnmit campus, and congratulated the country's representatives on winning three bronze medals at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in Shenzhen, China. The IEO drew representatives from 56 countries this year, the largest field since the competition began.

The ceremony took place on 19 September 2026 at the Professor M.L. Pin Malakul Building on the Prasarnmit campus. Medals were presented to students selected from more than 300 schools across the country: 5 gold, 11 silver and 26 bronze. The gold medals were presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Adul Supanut, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Srinakharinwirot University, and Assoc. Prof. Auttapol Suebpongsakorn, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Student Development at Kasetsart University's Faculty of Economics. The silver medals were presented by Christoph Anliker, Executive Director, Head of Front Management at LGT Securities (Thailand) Limited, and the bronze medals by representatives of the TEO organising committee, Dr. D. Jennings Meincke, Director, and Korawat Techaphulphol, Academic Director.

The five gold medallists were selected to represent Thailand at IEO 2026, held from 12 to 20 July in Shenzhen. It was the first time a Thai team had travelled to compete on site. Three returned with bronze medals: Sornakira Tangkurusorn of Temasek Junior College in Singapore, and Phoom Pumipitak and Pakawat Poldetch of Ruamrudee International School. Thailand's other two representatives were Pannawich Kongwuttipanya of Triam Udom Suksa School and Priya Hirunchupong of Ruamrudee International School.

The IEO is an international economics competition for secondary school students, covering economics, financial literacy and business case analysis, with the emphasis on analytical thinking and the application of knowledge. It is conducted entirely in English, and each country may send no more than five representatives. Thailand's five came through the TEO 2026 competition, which drew students from more than 300 schools nationwide across three rounds of selection. In the final round, 15 contestants analysed a business case and presented their findings in English before the national team was chosen. The competition is supported academically by the Faculty of Economics at Srinakharinwirot University and the Faculty of Economics at Kasetsart University, which set the examination papers and serve on the judging panel.

“This success reflects the determination and the intellectual potential of Thailand's young people,” Dr. Adul said. “At the same time, it demonstrates the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and other sectors in creating opportunities and preparing Thai youth to step onto the international stage.”

Alongside its academic partners, the 2026 competition was supported by LGT Securities (Thailand) Limited, Gold Mints Products Co., Ltd. and Admissions-Office.
