Election Commission teams up with TikTok to combat misinformation

The Election Commission (EC) of Thailand held a seminar to educate people on election-related guidelines and regulations that have been updated over time. The seminar will include a press conference with TikTok. The EC will collaborate with the video-sharing platform to provide accurate information regarding the upcoming Thai general election through the Election Centre on TikTok.

The EC and TikTok will also work together to prevent and combat misinformation during party campaigning and the election itself.

Sawaeng Boonmee, the Secretary-General of the Election Commission

Sawaeng Boonmee, the Secretary-General of the Election Commission, said that "The Election Commission and TikTok will collaborate to develop channels for disseminating factual information through an Election Centre, as well as collaborating to combat misinformation and distorted information by jointly setting up the process. The Election Commission hopes that this cooperation will be a good starting point for cooperation from all sectors to participate in the electoral process because everyone is an important player in driving a constitutional monarchy to be sustainable."

Chanida Klyphun, Head of Public Policy - Thailand, TikTok

Chanida Klyphun, Head of Public Policy - Thailand, TikTok, stated, "TikTok is a platform with stringent safety regulations for handling inaccurate information, distorted news, and content that violates our community guidelines. We believe that one effective way to deal with these issues is to provide access to accurate and reliable information sources. We are delighted to partner with the EC in opening an Election Centre to allow users on our platform and the public to access factual and secure information and details about the elections. During the elections, TikTok also plans to collaborate with academics, local experts, and political analysts to exchange ideas to assess the risks associated with harmful content that may occur during the elections and to create an understanding of the proper use of our platform for political parties and politicians. We will also apply security protocols on our platform to monitor and control the content that violates our community guidelines"

Users and the public can follow and receive information and details about the election via the Election Centre, which will be available on TikTok prior to the upcoming election.
