Total Access Communication (DTAC) is set to introduce new mobile digital services early next year, based on technology platforms of its Norwegian strategic partner Telenor.

DTAC senior vice president Pakorn Pannachet, who is head of product division, said the services would include mobile advertising, movie streaming, and machine-to-machine (M2M) technology.
Currently DTAC has about 5 million smart-phone users among its 23.6 million mobile-phone subscribers. Of the total, 7 million are active users of mobile data service.
Kristin Skogen Lund, Telenor Group’s executive vice president and head of the group’s digital services unit, said the mobile financial and advertising services could become popular in Thailand.
Telenor set up the digital services unit last September to strengthen the company’s position in the Internet- and application-based communication industry. The digital services include mobile financial services, Internet services, M2M, e-health and mobile advertising.
The unit so far has made revenue of about 3 billion kroner (Bt15 billion), expected to jump to Bt50 billion by 2016.
Pakorn said DTAC could introduce new services based on the technology platforms developed by Telenor’s digital services unit on a low-cost basis, instead of developing the platforms on its own from scratch.
What DTAC has to ensure is that it can offer such digital services in a way that can bring good experiences to customers.
Lund said most of Telenor Group’s customers were in Asia but the main revenue source for the company was Norway and elsewhere in Europe, given that it has introduced a lot more value-added services there. Telenor has mobile business operations in 11 countries in Europe and Asia.
Before joining Telenor Group, Lund held various senior positions in the media group Schibsted, including chief executive officer of Aftenposten AS, publisher of the largest newspaper in Norway. Before that, she was CEO of the image bureau Scanpix Scandinavia from 2003-2004 and CEO of the Internet portal Scandinavia Online from 1998-2002. She also held various management positions in Unilever and Coca-Cola.
