To capitalise on rising demand in the film and entertainment industry in Asean, Kantana Group is focusing more on film post-production business for clients in the region.

The company targets Bt1.1 billion in billings next year from this type of work, as well as from cinema management.
Under its upgrade plan, the country’s leading TV and film production house has earmarked about Bt1.5 billion for new digital technology equipment and the development of employees’ skills to meet the needs of clients in each country.
“We want to provide total solutions for TV and film post-production. We have put this strategy at the centre of our business. We also aim to become one of Asia’s leading film-production companies,” Jareuk Kaljareuk, chairman of Kantana Group, said yesterday.
He said Kantana Post Production (Thailand), a subsidiary company, planned to increase its capacity in terms of film production for clients in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam – from 40 movies this year to 100 next year.
Meanwhile, the company is recruiting new graphic designers for 3D conversion and 3D production.
To expand its client base, the company will also establish joint ventures in China and Japan next year to drive business growth of 64 per cent to Bt100 million in those markets.
Jareuk added that he wanted Kantana Post Production (Vietnam) to gain more market share in film and advertising production, generating a targeted Bt36 million in revenue next year.
In post-production for television commercials, it expects to increase its market share in Vietnam to 70 per cent next year, from 60 per cent this year.
The company is also aiming to enjoy 33-per-cent revenue growth in film production. It has already grabbed a 90-per-cent share of this market in Vietnam, he said.
Apart from post-production services, Kantana is also focusing on the management of budget cinemas in both the Kingdom and overseas markets, with its Asia Cinema Network unit responsible for this business.
Since the launch of the project, the company has had requests from 650 domestic business partners to operate budget cinemas, while the company is planning about 1,000 such operations in total across the country.
If the deals are sealed, the company expects to commence construction of the budget theatres early next year, he said, adding that it also plans to expand this business to neighbouring countries.
It targets having 2,000 budget cinemas in Indonesia, 1,000 in Vietnam, 300 in Myanmar and 50 in Laos.
Given these aggressive plans, the company aims to generate about Bt1.1 billion in billings for post-production for film and TV advertising and from the management of cinemas next year, said the chairman.
Revenue from post-production and cinema management combined will account for 30 per cent of the group’s total income, he added.
