Some 70 Myanmar people in Japan yesterday protested in front of the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, pressing for fair investigation for two men held as suspects of the Koh Tao murder case in Thailand.

In the petition submitted to the embassy, they urged Thailand to guarantee fair investigation on two Myanmar nationals alleged of killing two Britons - David Miller and Hannah Witheridge – on the tourist island in Surat Thani province of Thailand.
According to Min Aung Khine, a protester, the protest was joined by members of all Myanmar associations in Japan. Their leaders are Than Swe, Myit Swe and Hla Aye Maung. In the next step, they plan to seek the British government’s intervention in the investigation. Signatures are being collected.
The protest followed criticisms that the two men were the scapegoats. A suspect said that they confessed to the murder only after torture by Thai police.
