Wilas wants graft probe of top BMA official

Democrat Party politician Wilas Chanpitak will next Tuesday ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate a deputy governor of Bangkok - who was not named - for possible graft, he revealed yesterday.

Earlier this month, Wilas gave a press briefing, accusing the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) of obscure procurement deals. He also noted possibly wrongful reshuffles of BMA officials.
Wilas, a former MP, also accused Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of negligence. Despite having acknowledged the matter, the governor chose to go on a working trip to China instead of ordering investigation, he said.
He also noted that it appeared the BMA was exempt from a National Council for Peace and Order ban on civil servants travelling abroad, as some of its senior officials were frequently on overseas trips.
Sukhumbhand contested the gubernatorial election in 2013 under the Democrat banner.
