Candidates may have paid Bt500,000 bribes

Candidates may have paid Bt500,000 bribes

AN investigation reveals that persons who alleged-ly bribed their way to positions in local administrative bodies in the Northeast might have paid Bt 500,000 each.

Implicated in this bribery scandal are 32 top executives of tambon administrative organisations in Maha Sarakham province, who have now been suspended from duty following an order by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief General Prayut Chan-ocha.
“This bribery case clearly involves a huge amount of money judging by the number of successful candidates in the recruitment exams,” an informed source said yesterday.
The Kalasin Rajabhat University organised the exams for 19 tambon administrative organisations. Of the 1,421 registered test-takers, only one passed the exam. However, the local administrative bodies claimed 422 had passed and 167 have already been recruited.
Another higher-educational institute organised exams for 12 tambon administrative organisations. Of 510 registered test-takers, just four made it.
However, the local administrative bodies claimed 236 had passed the exams and has already hired 101 of them.
The same source said while many of those who paid bribes had already been hired, the five persons who legitimately passed the recruitment exams were still on the waitlist for available positions.
By rules, only test-takers who scored at least 60 per cent points in both General Knowledge and Specialised Knowledge parts are qualified for the jobs.
“These persons should receive compensation for their lost opportunities,” it said.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission is now investigating the case.
