On Saturday, volunteers from all over the globe assembled yet again at Kata Beach to help CBBC celebrate five successful years and over 125 beach cleaning sessions since the initiative began. About 130 people of all ages and nationalities working together collected over 20 bags of trash, most of which had washed up on Kata Beach.
From its humble beginnings in Phuket, Krix Luther has turned CBBC into a global event now operating in many countries.
Saturday’s clean-up was sponsored by The Kata Sea Beeze and the SIS Hotel in Kata. The Sea Breeze provided food and refreshment for all who turned out for the fifth anniversary event.
Getting involved with the CBBC is good for everyone, said Mat Hindmarsh, director of hotels and resorts, Aksara Collection. “We’re delighted to be involved in this great community event. Kata’s beaches are a magnificent natural resource our guests travel from around the world to enjoy.
The boot camp “not only makes cleaning our beaches fun, it’s a responsibility that the Aksara Collection – Kata Sea Breeze and SIS Kata – takes seriously. We encourage all sectors of the government and community to get involved in it”.
Colin Gallagher is just one of a core group of 20 or so that have attended the biweekly clean-ups since their 2013 kick-off.
“It’s fun, I’ve met some great people, I really feel like we’re making a difference and setting a good example,” said Gallagher.
