Customs clarifies on rumours about face mask exports
Thai Customs Department clarified on Thursday (March 12) that the export of 330 tonnes between January and February included fabrics and not just face masks.
The department was previously accused of hoarding 5 million face masks to sell to other countries after the expory figure was publicised but it said that the exports included shoelaces, upholsteries, capes and aprons.
Moreover, these goods were exported before the restriction on face mask export was officially announced and effective on February 5.
Thai Customs said that it understood the importance of the law and that the export of face masks had been lower since the restriction came into effect.
