Myanmar compiles statistics of possible losses when AFTA activates

Myanmar industrialists can report their production sectors which are possible to encounter certain losses in market competition effected from ASEAN Free Trade Area, according to the Industrial Development Sub-committee under the Ministry of Rail Transport

“We are asked to report the list of industrialists in this industrial zone due to impact of ASEAN Free Trade Area. The authorities want to know the reasons for increase of manufacturing costs out of the expenses such as in production, labor, electricity, fuel, transportation and local taxes. Moreover, officials are collecting information and data to identify the causes such as the lack of technology, machinery, investment and skilled labors which are the setbacks to compete with import products” said a manufacturer of electrical
gadgets in Mandalay industrial zone.

Furthermore, as domestic manufacturers are suffering losses due to illegal imports which can evade commercial taxes, they have been requested to expose these commodity items and their illegitimate inbound routes, as well as other blows to fair competition in the market.

Despite the fact that there are 24 industrial zones in Myanmar, the entrepreneurs are still facing some difficulties in electricity supply,
communication, water supply, drainage system of industrial waste, secure warehouses, machinery, raw materials, free market competition, transportation, flexible financial mechanism and other economic infrastructural development.
