VN assembly to revise forex law

Vietnam's foreign-exchange law will be revised to reduce the use of foreign currency in Vietnam, legislators decided on Thursday during the eighth session of the National Assembly's (NA) Standing Committee.

NA chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked the central bank to work with the NA’s Economic Committee to improve the law before submitting a final draft to the NA in May.
The committee also discussed budget allocations for two national target programmes, one on climate change adaptation and one addressing environmental pollution.
According to the government’s statement, the total state budget will allocate 248.3 billion dong (Bt12.6 billion) to the climate change programme and 131 billion dong to the pollution programme.
NA Finance and State Budget chairman Phung Quoc Hien backed a government-proposed 33-billion-dong project to treat wastewater discharged from type-2 urban areas in the three basin areas of Nhue-Day, the Cau River in the north and the Dong Nai River in the south.
The government plans to allocate 15 billion dong each to the provinces of Thai Nguyen and Dong Nai and give the remaining 3 billion dong to the steering management board. Hien said that with pollution increasing in all three river basins, urban wastewater should be treated before being discharged, and there should be bans on discharging wastewater from industrial areas or craft villages into these rivers.
