3 killed in Rakhine attack

At least one Rakhine national was killed and three others seriously injured in a brutal attack in Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State early yesterday morning, sources said.

Authorities allege that the attack on Myothit village in Maungdaw had been organised by an unknown group of Bengalis.
Some 15 Bengalis, disguised as Nasaka members, showed up at home of a Rakhine national named Ba Tin just after midnight. They used Myanmar language not Bengali to wake up before seriously injuring him.
Another man named Maung Aye, 54, was killed on the spot when he came down the stairs to see what was happening. Locals said they heard several gunshots.
Two villagers called Saw Myint Aung, 39 and Nay Lin Aung, 23, also sustained gunshot wounds.
The village is about 300 metres away from Nasaka Centre in Ngakura village.
“They killed them not for money or to steal valuables. Ngakura is a village where Bengalis come and go freely. So everyone needs to be cautious and the attackers need to be arrested. There are still no effective actions taken [by the authorities] against the violence occurring in Maungdaw,” a Ngakura villager said.
