The three-day course focuses on the ethics, skills and organisational structures required for a news organisation to maintain credibility, organisers said. It highlights the importance of a code of ethics for media professionals, effective allocation of editorial work, and legal safeguards for reporters as well as the ethical guidelines they are required to adhere to, organisers said.
The course includes a comparison of media laws in the region and suggestions on media ethics that could be helpful as Myanmar drafts a new media law, they said.
Paul Linnarz, director of the KAS Media Programme for Asia and an adviser to the Asia News Network, said the course would promote the development of journalistic skills during Myanmar’s transition period. The course is led by journalism trainer Peter Eng and Myanmar Journalist Union representative Aye Aye Win.
Eleven Media Group and Nation Multimedia Group are both members of the Asia News Network, which receives support from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German political foundation.
