Report on Rakhine clashes due

The Rakhine Issue Investigation Commission plans to release its final report on ethnic conflicts in the western state tomorrow, commission member Than Than Nu, the secretary of the Democratic Party (Myanmar), said.

“The commission office informed us about it. But it’s still not certain,” she added.
The report, which includes recommendations to prevent further violence in Rakhine, will be made public [in part] after it is submitted to President Thein Sein.
“It includes long-term and short-term recommendations to prevent further violence from taking place in the state,” she said.
“Government authorities are responsible for what to do next in accordance with the recommendations. They will investigate whether there are any illegal immigrants in the state and make reconciliation efforts among local communities. The main task of the commission is only to advise.”
Commission members had no right to speak about the report in detail, but she said it was not biased.
The commission recently released a statement saying it could not meet the original March 31 deadline for releasing its findings, even though the report was done.
The report addresses the long-term social and economic development needs of the people living in the state, and includes information and recommendations that go beyond the boundaries of Rakhine state. Extra information and recommendations were included to make it more practical.
Deadly communal violence flared on June 8 last year, displaced tens of thousands of people.
