Villages in Pyinsalu sub-township in Latputta township, Ayeyawady region, are facing shortages of drinking water.
Pyinsalu was one of the areas affected by Cyclone Nargis in 2008. It only has access to drinking water delivered by sea. People in the township have to rely on water-storage ponds for their drinking water.
This summer is hotter than in previous years. The drinking-water ponds have become dry, especially in some villages where over 800 households are now facing a scarcity of water.
