Hotels and Tourism Minister Htay Aung met with hotel operators from the zone at the Amazing Ngapali Resort on May 3 to discuss expansion, beautifying and sanitation work around the beach as well as the construction of new roads for easy access.
“The number of tourist arrivals is rising remarkably and we are planning to expand the hotel zone in three phases. We are also carrying out sanitation tasks for beautifying the beach,” Kyaw Swa Maung, the Amazing Ngapali Resort resident manager, said.
There are currently 563 rooms in the Ngapali Hotel Zone and with new hotels opening this year, there will be nearly 700 rooms.
The number of tourists who visited Ngapali has risen since 2011 and nearly 10,000 people visited the beach this year. The Hotel and Tourism Ministry expects 40 per cent more tourists this year compared to the million who visited last year.
There are nearly 750 hotels operating in the country, with 30 of them run by foreign firms in addition to the eight hotels being built.
