“Our objective is to make the market more transparent. We study whether the companies have greater prospects or have benefits in the short term and long term,” said Aung Thura, chief executive of the equity research firm Thura Swiss, who published the report along with local conglomerate First Myanmar Investment (FMI).
Chang beer the most trafficked
Beers and inexpensive food products are the most seized among illegal imports from Thailand into Myanmar, according to officials from the Department of Border Trade under the Ministry of Commerce, who said their teams seized 26.6 million kyat (Bt729,300) worth of the products from June 9 to 17 at the border. Chang Beer, the top-selling brand in Thailand, was the most trafficked among the beers seized, they said. Although Myanmar’s Investment Commission gave permission in January for the production of Chang in the country, the trafficking of the beer has yet to decline.
