Jakarta civil servants not allowed leave extension for Eid

In an effort to maintain public services for Eid al-Fitri, which falls on August 8 and 9, the city administration has decided to prohibit its high-ranking officials and local leaders from extending their leave.

Civil servants across the country will get seven days off from August 5 to 11, but each agency is entitled to enforce its own respective policy regarding leave extension, the Administrative Reforms Ministry said.
Jakarta Employment Agency head I Made Karmayoga said the city adminis-tration would not grant agency heads and local leaders – including subdistrict and district leaders – more than seven days.
“The city administration will only grant leave extension requests for 5 per cent of the employees, while there will be no extension for officials and local administration chiefs,” he said. There are currently more than 75,000 civil servants with the Jakarta administration. “We will allow employees to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families, but we will manage it so public services are not neglected,” he added.
Karmayoga said the city administration called on its employees to return to work on August 12, adding that those who disregard the regulation would face sanctions and their allowances will be cut as a consequence.
