Economy faces external risks to growth: Najib

The Malaysian economy is set to continue to expand this year and next, underpinned by domestic demand amid the continued moderation in external demand, Prime Minister Najib Razak said.

The Prime Minister said yesterday that there were, however, risks to growth, especially from the external environment.
“Global growth is expected to continue to remain modest as growth in the major advanced economies will still be affected by the ongoing structural adjustments and policy uncertainty.
“As these major economies calibrate their policies, we could face increased volatility in the financial markets,” he said, after a briefing by Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz on the latest economic and financial developments and prospects.
