Trash, squatters to be cleared

As the number of tourists taking Yangon's circular train route has increased, the city's authorities have decided to invest in clearing the route of some of its rubbish and squatters.

“At present there are around 80 to 100 tourists [a day] taking the circular train. Therefore, cleaning work along the circular routes will be carried out. At the moment, about a hundred staff from the Myanmar Railways is working on the cleaning,” said an official from the Yangon Region Government.
The Yangon City Development Committee together with the staff from the Myanmar Railways will collect the rubbish along the circular route, and remove those living near the railway tracks.
Moreover, they said they would continuously carry out removing the garbage along the routes and removing those huts and people living near the railroads.
“It is not good to see squatters and their huts along the circular route. Therefore, we are going to remove and relocate them to ensure such things do not occur in the future,” an official of the Yangon Region Government said.
