VP to meet ethnic armed groups in Nay Pyi Taw

Myanmar's Vice-President will meet leaders from two major ethnic armed groups for peace talks in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Vice-President Sai Mauk Kham will lead the Union Level Peacemaking Implementation Committee in meetings with the Rehabilitation Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) and the Karen National Union (KNU).
A preliminary coordination meeting between Union Minister Aung Min, the RCSS/SSA and the KNU was held in Yangon on August 24.
“We will present the ceasefire framework for discussion,” said RCSS/SSA spokesman Colonel Sai Hla.
The ceasefire framework contains a six-point roadmap for political dialogue and was proposed by the Working Group for Ethnic Coordination. The Working Group also wants to hold a nationwide peace conference.
The Union Level Peacemaking Implementation Committee comprises of Sai Mauk Kham, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the army General Soe Win, Minister to the President’s Office Aung Min and Lower House MP Thein Zaw.
