Robes of last royals to be restored with Japanese tech

Japanese technology will be used to restore the royal robes worn by Myanmar's last king and queen, according to a retired deputy director-general from the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library.

Nu Mya Zan said she expects maintenance work on the Maha Lata costumes to start in October or November and last for up to two years.
King Sipaw (Thibaw Min) and Queen Supayalat were the last rulers of the Konbaung Dynasty (1752-1885).
“A textile specialist from Japan will come here to work on the costumes. As they are made with a mix of organic and inorganic materials, they will take a long time to restore.  Besides gold and silver embroidery, the costumes also include jewels, metals and rubies, so they are very detailed,” said Nu Mya Zan.
The royal costumes are on display at the National Museum of Myanmar in Yangon.
