Cambodia braces for mass protest

Around 2,000 police have conducted anti-riot rehearsals ahead of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party's (CNRP) planned three-day protest, starting today in Phnom Penh.

The training at Freedom Park was held in preparation for the CNRP’s mass rally against July’s election results, which it says were rigged to ensure victory for Prime Minister Hun Sen and his Cambodian People’s Party.
The opposition is demanding the establishment of an independent committee to probe alleged election irregularities.
Anti-riot training involved forces from nine districts of Phnom Penh, who were seen armed with shields, guns, batons and other anti-riot equipment. Twenty-five fire trucks also took part in the training.
