Parliament hounds 'corrupt' judge out of office

President Thein Sein has approved the resignation of a judge accused of corruption, reports said yesterday.

The president on Tuesday approved the voluntary resignation of Si Si, a Rakhine High Court judge who was accused by parliamentarians of accepting a bribe from a rice miller, The Voice Daily reported.
In August a group of 14 members of parliament accused the judge of protecting a rice miller who had allegedly exploited farmers. “We starting an inquiry in early September into charges that she was taking money from the owner of Rice Mill at Mrauk-U township, Rakhine State,” said MP Aye Mya Kyaw. “Now that the president has allowed her to resign we don’t need to accuse her again in parliament.”
