Open fund for Yangon poor, MP urges government

MP Nyo Nyo Thinn has called on the government to give financial support to elderly people, pregnant women and poor students from the Ks1- billion fund provided to the Yangon Region.
Dr Nyo Nyo Thinn is the representative of Bahan township in the Yangon Region and one of six women in the 123-member Parliament.
"If we look at the budget of the Yangon Regional government, how much has it been used for public health and education?” she asked. “Shouldn't they implement programmes to support elderly people and provide free medicines to pregnant women and nutritious food to poor students at poor schools as a special project, using the Ks1-billion fund they receive from the central government?”
Students may live on campus
The Advanced Technological Universities Administration Committee has submitted a proposal to authorities to allow students attending Yangon Technological University and Mandalay Technological University to live in the halls of residence starting next academic year.
“It’s difficult for students from different regions to attend Yangon and Mandalay Technological Universities, if they don’t have any relatives in the respective cities. We have asked authorities to allow first and second year students to live in the halls of residence as they are still quite young,” said Nyi Hla Nge, chairman of the Advanced Technological Universities Administration Committee.
Yangon to get housing bank
The Construction and Housing Development Bank will be located in Dagon township, Yangon region, sources from the Ministry of Construction said.
“We will set up the bank after establishing a private company. The CHDB can sell the bank shares, but they can’t enter the banking business before setting up a bank. All processes are supervised by Central Bank of Myanmar and we are carefully not to make mistake in financing,” said the CHDB managing director Win.
