Number of police officers to rise to 150,000

Myanmar will boost the strength of its national police service up to 150,000, according a statement from an official of the Myanmar Police Force (MPF).

The plan comes as a result of the MPF’s reconstitution under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the official said. At present, the police force is comprised of only about 70,000 members.
“The reconstitution of the MPF is now complete. Accordingly, we will increase the police strength to 150,000.
“We are taking systematic measures for this,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Nyan Zaw from MPF Brigade (5).
