Those against charter change are afraid of NLD winning, Suu Kyi says

Those don't want to change Section 59 (F) of the constitution are opposed to it because they are afraid the National League for Democracy will win the coming election, NLD chairperson and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi said.

Suu Kyi made this comment at a media session at the parliament on Monday.
Voices have recently emerged in opposition to changing Section 59 (F), which deals with the qualifications for president. Those who do not wish to amend this section have said that if Suu Kyi is elected president in the coming election, the country will fall under the influence of foreigners.
“I think they are afraid of the NLD winning the coming election. That is just my opinion,” Suu Kyi said.
Regarding public-information sessions that have called to maintain the current edition of the constitution, she added: “What we have said we will do, we have said in front of the public. We need no one to ask about that. A petition of more than 100,000 voters calling not to amend the Constitution is just signatures. We need not pay special attention to that.”
Suu Kyi added that she does not wish to see turmoil erupt among the public. In her bid to amend the Constitution, she said she will do everything within the frames of parliamentary procedure and the rule of law and order.
“People have to wait and see if the parliament acts according to the people’s desire or not,” she said.
