Civilian groups, students, NGOs and all political parties, along with Dagon Seikkan residents, joined the procession, the 16th such demonstration in the Yangon region.
Rally slogans called for amendment of the 2008 Constitution, the drafting of a constitution that represents all ethnic races, “No Section 59 (D), No Section 59 (F)”, amendment of sections not in line with democratic standards, and amendment of sections that ensure the violation of ethic races’ rights.
“We hope that Section 59 (D), (F) and Section 436 in the 2008 Constitution will be amended, because they are not in conformity with democratic norms and do not benefit the people,” said rally leader Than Soe. “We hope parliament will amend the Constitution.”
The procession began on the corner of Sein Pan and Ngwe Zin Yaw streets in the 88th quarter of Dagon Seikkan Township and ended at the Oo Ein bus stop near Ponami Street in the 94th quarter.
