Singaporeans choose official gifts for Jubilee babies

Singapore - All babies born in Singapore next year are to receive eight gifts in honour of the country's 50th anniversary, decided by public consultation, an official said.

The lucky infants will get a commemorative medallion, a shawl, a babysling, a baby book, a family photo frame, a set of baby clothes, adiaper bag and a scrapbook.
The selections were the top of 6,500 items put forward in almost 20,000 votes in a poll conducted from April to May, the National Population and Talent Division said.
"The Jubilee Baby Gift symbolises our best wishes, hopes and aspirations from this generation of Singaporeans to the next," said Anita Fam, chairwoman of the Jubilee Baby Gift Advisory Panel.
The city-state has implemented various incentives in recent years to fight low birth rates. Last year it enhanced its Marriage and Parenthood Package, including a baby bonus to contribute to the financial cost of raising children.
