Renowned Myanmar puppeteers to stage a show in Bangkok

Myanmar's leading puppet troupe Htwe Oo will perform at the Harmony World Puppet Carnival in Bangkok next month.

"It’s been confirmed that we will be represented at the puppet carnival in Bangkok. Our puppet show will start at 8 pm so I expect the show to be crowded," said Khin Maung Htwe, proprietor director of Htwe Oo.
The carnival brings together 114 puppet troupes from 66 countries including 11 troupes from eight countries in Southeast Asia. As a Myanmar representative, Htwe Oo will stage a summary of a full-length puppet performance that’s normally held all night at pagoda festivals across the country.
"The puppet show will include an opening act, a main performance and a summary of one of the 10 Jataka tales [about the Lord Buddha's previous lives]. It will end with a fun performance of U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe dances. We have prepared the lightning, set and curtains in elaborate detail. We will make the Myanmar puppetry community proud," he added.
Htwe Oo will stage a one-hour puppet show at Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre on November 2 at 8 pm as part of the Harmony World Puppet Carnival that runs from November 1 to 10. The Myanmar libretto is displayed on a screen with translation in English and Thai.
