Yangon to collect toll gate fees for municipal area

Toll gate fees will be collected in 33 townships in the Yangon municipal area for vehicles entering or parking in those townships starting from November 26, the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has announced.

 
The vehicles that must pay toll gate fees include vehicles from outside the municipal area and those registered in other states and regions. According to the YCDC announcement, the plan is aimed at reducing the city’s heavy traffic congestion.
The amount of toll gate fees will depend on the tonnage of vehicles and range from Ks 100 (US$ 0.1) to Ks 10,000 per day. However, local passenger buses, vehicles owned by the military and police, ambulances, departmental cars and goods-loaded trucks will be exempt from the fees. 
For company and private vehicles from Thanlyin, Hmawby and Taikkyi townships entering Yangon municipal area and vehicles entering Dala and Seikkyi Kanaungto townships, the amounts of toll gate fees are Ks 100 for a less-than-one-tonne vehicle, Ks 200 for one to three-tonne, Ks 300 for four to five-tonne and Ks 500 for more than five-tonne. 
For vehicles in Yangon Region but from outside the municipal area the fee will be Ks 200 for a less than one-tonne vehicle, Ks 400 for a one to three-tonne and Ks 1,000 for more than three to five-tonne, according to the announcement. 
For vehicles outside Yangon Region entering the designated municipal area will have to pay Ks 2,000 for less than one-tonne vehicle, Ks 4,000 for one to three-tonne, Ks 6,000 for over three to five-tonne and Ks 10,000 for a more than five-tonne.
