Some of the vehicles in Yangon are registered in other states and regions, causing heavy traffic congestion in Yangon.
“We will open ten more toll gates at the entrance and exit roads in Yangon. If they don’t want to pay at the toll gates, they can pay the fees at the Revenue Department under YCDC by estimating their stay in Yangon. Vehicles entering the city will be issued cards at the toll gates. They will have to show the cards to pay at the toll gates when they leave Yangon city. If they lose the cards, the fees will be calculated from the day the vehicles enter and leave the city,” said an official from YCDC.
Moreover, authorities have notified taxis and other vehicles in Yangon which are registered in other states and regions to return to their respective states and regions before November 26. If they don’t want to return, they will be charged daily fees.
The vehicles that must pay toll gate fees include vehicles from outside the municipal area and those registered in other states and regions. According to the YCDC announcement, the plan is aimed at reducing the city’s heavy traffic congestion.

For company and private vehicles from Thanlyin, Hmawby and Taikkyi townships entering Yangon municipal area and vehicles entering Dala and Seikkyi Kanaungto townships, the amounts of toll gate fees are Ks 100 for a less-than-one-tonne vehicle, Ks 200 for one to three-tonne, Ks 300 for four to five-tonne and Ks 500 for more than five-tonne.
For vehicles in Yangon Region but from outside the municipal area the fee will be Ks 200 for a less than one-tonne vehicle, Ks 400 for a one to three-tonne and Ks 1,000 for more than three to five-tonne, according to the announcement.
