Anwar stripped of 'Datuk Seri' title

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has been stripped of his "Datuk Seri" title conferred upon him in 1992 by the Selangor ruler. The revocation of the Seri Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah award took effect on November 3.

“The Sultan, after consulting with the Selangor Royal Council, has decided that the honorary award which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’ to Anwar Ibrahim, be revoked effective November 3. The decision is based on Anwar’s repeated questioning of the integrity of the Selangor Sultan and royal institution,” Sultan Sharafuddin’s private secretary, Mohamad Munir Bani, said yesterday.
However, Anwar can still use the title as he has received awards, which carries the title from Perak, Pahang and Negri Sembilan.
