The forum will first be held in Yangon in March with representatives from Shan, Kachin, China states and all other regions. Independent children’s rights groups will be invited. Then, it will take place in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, according to Akar Doe Naung of Myanmar Child Rights Development Network.
He said that the rights groups have asked for government guidance but received no reply.
“We want this forum to be led by the government but if they don’t lead it, social organisations will hold it instead,” said Akar Soe Naung. “The groups are small and very basic. They know the most about children and can represent them effectively. About 40 or 50 groups will be invited,” he added.
Information gathered during the meetings will be submitted to parliament by some 100 delegates.
