2015 will determine the country's future

Decisions made this year will affect the country's future and determine what challenges will be overcome, Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi wrote in D-Wave, the official journal of the National League for Democracy (NLD), on January 5.

"The world knows that the year 2015 will be a very important year for our country. The most important thing is that the people make right decisions this year, I told a reporter recently. The decisions made this year will not be affect this year alone; they will affect the country's entire future," she wrote.
"So our decisions should not be made by only reviewing occurrences yesterday and last year. We should take account of previous decades. We should have great insight. We should to look into the future. New Year's Day is not inherently important. If we, the people, do not change as years and seasons change, a new year will never come. I wish for the challenges of the year 2015 to be overcome."
She also said it is difficult to answer questions raised by reporters about what will happen to politicians and prominent people in the new year.
She quoted Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the Indian independence movement against the British Empire, as a perfect example, saying that goals can be achieved step by step.
To mark the Independence Day on January 4, she also noted that her party will have to work harder this year and be more diligent and more forward-thinking.
“We regained independence. But we must consider whether this is the independence the people longed for,” she said.
“Violence in the last few years has caused the people to be panic and rule of law to become weak. The people are worried about their security,” said NLD leader Tin Oo.
“Destructive elements in the government may create violence in 2015. Misfortune may yet come about in the country. We must cultivate constructive minds in all of our action. In doing so, we can improve the chances of nation-wide peace, and the image of the country will become better and better,” Tin Oo said.
