Student march continues

Students who begun a protest march on January 20 against the controversial national education law vowed to proceed with their mission despite some pressure from local authorities.

The first sign of trouble was witnessed in Kyaukse Township, about 40km from Mandalay. Local people and university lecturers showed their support. The students first planned to spend a night at Sinphutawwit monastery. Yet, they decided to move on as local authorities threatened to take legal actions against the monks there for the permission to stay.
“They put pressures on us so that we couldn’t stay at the monastery,” said Ye Yint Kyaw, a student. “We will continue marching to Yangon regardless of difficulties or pressure.”
