Late opening of new airport

Hanthawady International Airport will be opened in 2020, a year later than schedule, according to state media.
In Global New Light of Myanmar report, Win Swe Tun, director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation cited some delays in implementation process without elaborating.
The US$1.4 billion project in Bago Region is located on the land where the Japanese army built an airport during World War II. Half of the investment will be financed by an ODA loan from Japan. The construction contract was awarded to the consortium of Yongnam and Changi Airport Planners and Engineering from Singapore and Japan's JGC Corp.
