Kaladan waterway 80 per cent complete

The Kaladan Project support committee has reported that construction on the waterway component of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project is now 80 per cent complete due to delayed imports of some construction components, according to the Kalada
The project is expected to be completed by the end of June this year, three months behind original schedule. The waterway phase involves the construction of an integrated port and inland water transport system, including dredging a navigational channel 158 kilometres along the Kaladan River from Sittwe to Paletwa.
The whole Kaladan project is expected to be completed by 2016 or later, said a senior official from the Myanmar Port Authority.
The multi-modal project aims to create a trade route between Sittwe Port, Rakhine State, and the land-locked region of Mizoram in northeastern India via river and road transport.
