Student trial moved to new court

The sixth court hearing on 70 detained students and supporters on April 30 will be moved from Letpadan to Thayawady Court, said their lawyers.

The students and supporters were among 127 arrested after the violent crackdown on the protest against the National Education Law in Letpadan on March 10.
Police Major Phone Myint of Letpadan Township Police Station said the change of court was due to security reason.
Phyoe Phyoe Aung, one of the student leaders, said students rather want fair judicial process.
The authorities allowed the detained students and supporters to meet with families and journalists after the court hearing on April 23.
“My son was arrested not because he was against the government but because he demanded educational reform. I am proud of his action,” a father said.
