Judges ignore bid to save colonial building
The juridical authorities have made no response to a Myanmar Lawyers' Network lawsuit aiming to block the redevelopment of Yangon's high court building, said advocate Kyi Myint.
The network sued Yangon region chief minister Myint Swe, Myanmar Investment Commission, Flying Tiger Engineering Co Ltd and Frime Residence Co Ltd under Section 42 on April 3 for leasing the historic colonial high court building in Yangon to developers for conversion into a hotel.
However, the lawsuit has been halted as the authorities made no response.
“The lawsuit we submitted was at the regional court and we received no reply. We said we would not accept no response to the lawsuit. If they don’t accept our lawsuit, we will make a press conference to inform the public,” said Kyi Myint.
The network has protested in October 2012 and May 2014 without success. They arranged a lawsuit in November and December 2014 but the juridical authorities denied it without giving a reason.
