NLD asks disenfranchised voters to stay peaceful

The National League for Democracy has asked voters to control themselves if they are denied the right to vote.

It said it was the duty of election commission staff to allow citizens to vote and they could face action if that right was denied. But the NLD said there was a prospect of voters being denied their rights on Sunday.

The statement said: “The Union Election Commission has announced the nationwide voter lists. Our party is trying to correct the list but it is still wrong and some voters have the potential to lose their voting rights.

“People may respond with anger. They need to understand that it is a response wanted by some people and organisations. People need to avoid those actions, especially near polling stations.”
