Experts to lecture new NLD MPs

Yangon - Lectures on governmental and parliamentary activities will be given to elected candidates representing the victorious National League for Democracy (NLD) who won seats on November 8 so they can perform their duties effectively.

Advocate Ko Ni, who is one of the course instructors, will make five batches of the elected candidates and start giving lectures in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Pyay from December 16.

“We will teach the elected candidates laws and salient points. The lecture course will take only three days. There may be at least 150 to 170 candidates in one section. Our lecture is scheduled in Mandalay, Shan, Kachin and Nay Pyi Taw on December 16, 17 and 18 and Sagaing, Naga, Chin and Kayah in Nay Pyi Taw on December 20, 21 and 22. We will give lectures to the candidates from lower Myanmar in Yangon on January 6, 7 and 8. We will give lectures to another batch of candidates in Yangon on January 10, 11 and 12. We will give lectures in Pyay on December 15, 16 and 17,” Ko Ni said.

He said lectures would focus on the Constitution and other laws, the functions and duties of parliamentary committees and international relations.

“Candidates need to study the law and the authority prescribed in the Constitution. They must realise functions and duties of committees in Parliament. They must know budgetary laws and international relations,” Ko Ni said.

Ko Ni will lecture on constitutional law and other legal aspects while Upper House MP Aung Kyi Nyunt will cover rules and policies of the party, the roles of parliamentary committees, budgets and international relations.
