Six bids received for Myanmar power project

The Electricity and Energy Ministry has received six tender applications for the construction of a 300-megawatt power plant, according to Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise.
The applications came from a consortium of Maxpower Myanmar, LNG Link, Consultant International Company, Sepco Electric Power Construction Corporation, a joint venture of Indonesia, Singapore and China; UK-based Aggreko International Projects; China Energy Engineering and China ITS Holdings Co; Singapore-based Karpowership Asia Company; a consortium of National Infrastructure Holdings Company, Ace Resources Group, MCM Pacific and APR Energy Plc; a joint venture of Myanmar, Singapore and the US; and CRRC and V Power Engineering from Hong Kong and China.
The ministry will announce the winner on September 9 to install a generator that can run on a dual-fuel system.
Some bidders urged the ministry to extend the deadline but it stuck to the timeframe because it said the project needed to be completed ahead of the next hot season to meet rising demand for power. – Myanmar Eleven

Tender set for KL-Singapore high-speed rail project

Conceived in 2013, the 350-kilometre rail project is expected to begin operating in 2026 and cut travel between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to 90 minutes from the current four to five hours by road.
A joint tender will be called today for a firm to assist in the development of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail project. Singapore’s Land Transport Authority and Malaysia’s MyHSR Corporation will call the tender and the firm they are looking to engage will act as a joint development partner (JDP).
This follows the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Singapore last month. “The JDP is expected to provide project management support, technical advice and procurement advice relating to the high-speed railway systems and operations,” the agencies said yesterday in a joint release.
It will also be expected to develop technical and safety standards for the project, and assist the two countries’ joint project team in preparing documents for upcoming tenders relating to the joint aspects of the project.
The tender is open to firms that have advised on large public-private partnership infrastructure projects.
Firms with experience in providing project management, technical, commercial or legal advisory services relating to high-speed rail systems or rail projects with 200km of track may also apply. – The Straits Times

2,200 low-cost flats available soon
The Myanmar Construction Ministry says it has built 2,200 low-cost flats in Yangon and will be selling them soon. Min Htein, director-general of the Urban and Housing Development Department, told a press conference in Nay Pyi Taw that these 2,200 flats were finished during the government’s first 100 days.
“They are ready to be sold.”
The officials said they would make sure the flats were used to house those in need. People with deposit accounts at the Construction and Housing Development Bank will also be able to buy them. “The buyers must have about 30 per cent of the apartment’s value in their bank accounts. They should have enough income to pay off the monthly instalments.”
The apartments are in Dagon Seikkan and Hlaingthaya townships. |– Myanmar Eleven
